I'd say that essentially I'm a great fan of all kinds of quality literature. Nevertheless, I read almost anything that I can lay hands on - except most bestsellers! I don't often buy bestsellers, but it happens sometimes. In fact, I've just finished a book written by the Rome correspondant of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Stefan Ulrich. The title is "Quattro stagioni" and it's about his first year in Rome. It's really amusing to read about all the little annoyances and peculiarities of daily life in Italy ... and above all of Italian bureaucracy. Stefan Ulrich had quite his share of unexpected experiences because he moved to Rome with his whole family, ie with his wife and two children. A recommendable book, but for the time being only available in German.

I do love all kind of literature. I use to chose my books according to the moment, or to my mood.

I like classical novels, detective stories, Travelling diaries also. I have just bought all the works about Sherlock Holmes, by Sir Conan Doyle. He also wrote stories with professor Challenger - the lost worlds I think. It isn't so bad, but my heroe remains the great Sherlock Holmes.

When I was in High school I read a very beautiful novel by Allan Silletoe "Saturday night and Sunday morning". It was quite difficult because there were a lot of slang but it was a very good book.

Like you Jen, I like Patricia Cornwell, and Maxime Chattam. I also appreciate Kathy Reichs, James Patterson, Ann Perry, ...

I am a voracious reader and a book collector. I love classic works of poetry and literature. I laos like haikus and write and collect the written works from a local haiku club.

Of late I have taken a shine to folk tales because of the simplicity of the language but steeped in the immense wisdom of our ancestors. I am reading African Folktales by Roger D. Abrahams and will graduate to Runelore which I will discuss later. I have stacked on my shelf Russian Folktales and Japanese Fairy stories.

But something that inevitably strikes me is the illustrations of the book. A book has to be beautifully illustrated for me to appreciate it. I bought Magical Indian Myths - by Anita Nair and the illustrations are breathtaking! It is a children's book but I think there is much adults can learn from it and at least see the image that the tales inspire in the artist.

I love the starkness and bleariness of Khalid Hosseini's works - The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns.

i like to read anything on a good day but mainly romance because it just seems so real! (fiction romance) but thriller can be good too i totally love poetry and always will i recently read a book '31 dream street' by Lisa Jewell and it really makes you think about what you want in life so it was great but i also like Jaqueline Wilson and i cant remember anyone else at the moment!

Now, I'm reading un a thriller from Harlan Coben (in french : "Sans un Mot", in english :"Hold Tight")

It's, like all the Coben's books, a thrilling story, ... very fascinating !

I read poetry books, and books about philosophy.

Right now I'm reading about early eastern philosophers and spiritual people and a book about mysticism.

Although I don't belong to any religion, I respect every one, and I especially love eastern philosophies!

Favorite poets/ writers: Sylvia Plath, Anna Ahmatova, Emily Dickinson, Mahadevi Akka, Anais Nin, Gavriel Garcia Marquez, Banana Yoshitomo, Haruki Murakami, Jack Kerouac.

I often find myself enjoying controversial fictions such as 'Lolita' by Vladimir Nabokov and classics like 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' by the one and only, Oscar Wilde.

When I was younger, I was very drawn to fantasy-fictions. Books like 'Harry Potter', 'Artemis Fowl' and 'Lord of the Rings' basically dominated my reading world.

But nowadays, I usually go for stories that would leave a somewhat bitter-sweet taste in my mouth. I'm not sure if anyone here has ever heard of 'A Private Hotel for Gentle Ladies' by Ellen Cooney. I found it amazing and strangely addictive despite the slow and relaxed pace of the book. Those kind of stories have a lot of substance to them; as opposed to light-hearted chick literature.

However, I'm never one to discount a book before actually reading it. Over the past few years, I've read chick literatures such as 'Bergdorf Blonde' and the likes. I find them easy to digest when I'm not up to reading anything too heavy.

So all in all, I'm just a big literature connoisseur really, hahaha. I love anything related to it. From fiction and autobiographies to poetry and scripts. I'd greedily gobble them all.
