Dear everyone,

We are currently working on the new small ads service.

We would appreciate your opinion concerning this service (whose features are explained below) and we would like to know what categories will interest you (with exception for cars, appliances, etc. which are obviously too voluminous to be sent to the other part of the world)

These categories needs to have something to do with penpalling.

The service will work like this :

Each member will be able to sell or swap items (or services, such as : scrapbooking).

Swapping won't need any intermediary between members. We will just intervene in the first steps, that is :

1/ A member (called B-member) is interested in an item offered by an A-member (e.g.: stamps),

2/ He/she makes a swap offer : "your stamps in exchange for postcards from my country". If that offer is accepted by the A-member, the B-member is notified and both members exchange their addresses with each other and can proceed forward with the swap. A rating system (Ebay-style) will be set up as well as a "seller/swapper" account for each member.

Adding a swap ad will cost either 1€ or you can use your rewarding points instead. This way everyone can participate.

As for selling here are the different steps :

1/ an A-member sells an item on the site and sets a price of his/her choice

2/ a B-member wants to buy that item, he/she pays by sending money to our PayPal account.

3/ when we receive the money the A-member sends the item to the buyer and we credit the money onto the A-member's Penpal Tradition account (that is the seller's) as "earnings"

4/ we will redeem your earnings for money when your account balance reaches 15€ (you can convert it here to your currency). Payments will be made to your PayPal account (safe and fast method of payment), by french bank cheque, or by bank transfer if you live in Belgium.

Of course you will be able to use your earnings on the site to submit ads.

Adding a item for sale will cost either 1€ or you can use your rewarding points instead.

We will take 10% off the amount of the transaction. So if you sell an item for 20€, your earning will be 18€.

I'll keep you posted for further information.

That sounds like a very well planned, foolproof setup. The usual collector's items like stamps, currency, miniatures, ATCs, vintage labels and scrap layouts or the like can readily be exchanged amongst friends.

Handmade crafts would need photographs to be uploaded and if there are artists taking orders for certain handmade items it would need regular correspondence (monitored or unmonitored). There could be some who would love to buy from their artistic friends :)

I wonder if there are digital artists who would like to sell digital wares like graphics, websets or illustrations but copyright rules need to be strongly reinforced or Penpal Tradition could simply hold themselves as third party without knowledge of items being sold and provide a "report abuse" option.

My two pennies.

Great, thanks for your comment. I think some artists may eventually be able to sell their hand made items (stationeries, etc.) to Penpal Tradition members for their correspondence needs through the small ads service but they won't need to be members though. This will help unknown artists in some way.

But members will also be able to swap or sell to each other within the club. Maybe we will discover some nice artists this way ! I'm sure many members have some hidden talents

Hi-

I understand, but if anyone who doesnot have the access to euros or paypal on a credit card; well how will they pay? I really would like people to swap stamps with me- so then how do I do this as I only have United states dollars and if I try to use any of my credit cards, it tells me that my paypal account has been locked as someone years ago from some foriegn country got my information(do not know how) and now I have no paypal anymore.

In my opinion, this may not be such a good idea.

I have a question of the moderators on this small ad thing-

How many points is it going to cost to hold a swap?

Actually swapping won't cost any point, you will even earn points for swapping. That would make more sense. We have not decided yet how points will be used we'll keep you informed.
