Would anyone care to voice his/her thoughts on the US elections? The preliminaries have been going on for a year and a half already. It has taken 17 months for the Democrats to elect their candidate. The final results no doubt will have implications for the rest of the world....what do you think?

Hello I am only french woman, but I think that we can speak a little english together, this is perhaps not the good way to give my opinion, tell me gala how to do a new subject ?
For the elections in USA, I think that it is not a good thing for now, but in the country where you live, do american people accept a black president ?
Why do american people vote for Bush some years ago between the party of Clinton politic ?
It was very dangerous, but I see it whith the eyes of my little country !
If american people votes for the other side it will be a bad thing for the politic world.
I'm going to speak with the coordinator to have a more important english forum what do you think about it ?

I am very happy that Barak Obama is the candidate of the Democrats, but in a way, I am afraid of the results of the elections. I wonder if the United States are ready to have a black president.
I also think that the only way to have a chance to be the next president of the USA is to choose Hillary Clinton as vice-president, to get all the Demoncrats'votes. But the problem is the same. Are USA ready to have a black president and a woman as vice-president ??
I am very worried because I don't feel John Mc Cain will be good for the country and for the rest of the world. Anyway, it is very interesting to see how things are going for the moment. I bought a very good magazine which explain the main lines of Obama's politicy. Let's hope he will win
Thank you for your posts. Politics are very fickle, as we all know, and things can change from day to day. Why did Americans vote from Bush instead of voting for Al Gore 8 years ago? In my opinion, people were tired of the Clinton's private business (Whitewater affair, for example) and Pres. Clinton's skirt chasing (remember the Lewinski affair?). Besides, Al Gore at that time didn't look at all presidential: he looked very stiff, almost robotic. Very different from the person he is today.
Will the American people vote for a black candidate? That is yet to be seen and we'll know as early as next November. For the moment, the Democratic party needs to sort out its differences, unite behind one and only candidate and forget what happened during the primaries.
It is unfortunate that two 'firsts' have taken place in the same election cycle and within the same party: the first black candidate and the first female candidate. I wished it had happened at different times in history because both candidates would make good presidents and bring fresh air and new perspectives to the White House. It is also unfortunate that the party will have to choose one over the other as a candidate.
In my opinion, electing McCain would be a gross mistake, since nothing would change much and the USA needs to rethink its rol as one of the world powers (not the only one anymore) and its attitude towards working as an equal with other countries when problems arise.

At the beginning of all this when everyone was still in the running, a good friend of mine put it this way: You can't elect Obama or Clinton cause they both would be shot, Huckabee would die of a heart attack because of his previous weight, and McCain is so old he will just die in office. In other words we are screwed:)
Unfortunately I won't be old enough to vote in November, but I have been following the election closely and it has been interesting. I think it would be a mistake if Clinton is chosen as Obama's running mate. If you recall when she was making a speech after joining the support wagon for him, she totally put on a fake smile. I don't really believe we are ready for an African American president but I applaud Obama for how far he has come. There still is a lot of racism and prejudice in this country, especially in Los Angeles where I live. As for McCain I do worry that he would repeat Bush politics. Although he has voiced his opinion against certain policies, he changes his mind a lot and we can't have that kind of leader. I'm not rooting for one candidate over the over but I do believe that most likely McCain will win due to the fact that the Democratic party is still torn apart. But it could all change, there still is time. But Hillary stayed too long and that has cost a good number of votes.

If we vote Mccain into office, we will be safer around the world because Obama does not have any experience, but I think the economy will be better except that Obama is going to raise taxes and Mccain is going to raise taxes but only after awhile. I thought Hillary Clinton was alot better than Obama and that is why my vote will go to Mccain because I do not trust Obama at all-

After Clinton dropped out, I was looking more to Obama but recent events have caused me to look more towards McCain. I think Obama is putting more fluff then actual reality in his campaigning. I'm not a huge McCain fan, I'm concerned about repeat of Bush politics. At this point though, having a definite plan is more reassuring then dreams. It is true that he might be more trouble than Bush, but I have to agree with Kathleen. Raising taxes is a given for any president. There is no stopping it after this huge deficit created from the war. The only thing I'm hoping for now is that the media will stop glorifying Obama and let us here more of what McCain has to say.

Hi everyone-
Tonight I was able to see Obamas speech on tv at the democratic convention.
I thought Obama delivered a great speech, but I still do not trust him to be president. I wanted Hillary Clinton for president and it makes me so mad that she is not even on the democratic ticket for vice president so I am a Hillary supporter am voting for McCain even though I am a democrat.
People that I work with are all saying that Obama will be the president, but will be assasinated anyway.
